Dr. Marty Makary, Professor at Johns Hopkins, member of the National Academy of Medicine, and author of The Price We Pay – What Broke American Healthcare and How to Fix It, joined the Guy Benson Show to discuss the new round of vaccines that the Biden Administration is pushing, and the two discuss the lack of testing that went into this latest round of vaccines. They also discuss the latest CIA Covid-19 whistleblower in the interview. Listen to the full interview below.
Guy Benson: Back with us now, Dr. Marty Makary, a professor at Johns Hopkins, a member of the National Academy of Medicine and author of the book The Price We Pay. Doctor, always great to have you here.
Dr. Marty Makary: Great to be with you. Thanks, Guy.
Guy Benson: I want to start with this op-ed you’ve written at The New York Post. You were tweeting about it as well. The administration is urging Americans to go get this latest COVID shot. You and I talked about this a couple of weeks ago. You had some skepticism. You’re now delving into some real specific reasons why you feel like that skepticism is very warranted. Walk us through the argument.
Dr. Marty Makary: Well, that’s right. We were concerned that the FDA would do exactly what they did on Tuesday and Monday of this week. They are telling every American six months of age and older to get this new COVID vaccine, but they approved it based on almost no data. There’s no human clinical trial data. Pfizer submitted data on ten mice. And Moderna, which also got a new vaccine approved. This is not an additional booster. This is an entirely newly designed COVID vaccine. They want everyone to get even if you had COVID a few months ago. They don’t care. They’re pushing it hard. And the White House bought four times as many doses for children this round as they did last fall when they had that new Bivalent vaccine. So this is a big push now of the Moderna trial. It turns out if you actually look at the data returned, it did give it to 50 people back four months ago. One of them had an adverse event requiring medical attention. Moderna won’t tell us anything else about it. And so I may be right.
Guy Benson: Cause we know that vaccine are…
Dr. Marty Makary: Caused by the vaccine. They do say that it was vaccine induced, but they won’t say what the complication was. And so I think the public has a right to know them. If you’re going to push this on everybody and one out of 50 people in your trial, first of all, why were you giving it to 50 people four months ago? You should give it to 500 or a thousand and do a proper randomized controlled trial and track them for three months or more, not just two weeks. I mean, this is making.
Guy Benson: Why not just let’s just let’s just pause this because I’m trying to compute this in my brain right now. And I think you’re making absolutely just no brainer critiques of Moderna at the moment. And we’ll return to that. But Moderna at least tested this on a few dozen human beings and admitted that there was some adverse effect. The Pfizer one, you said was tested on ten mice. And that’s it.
Dr. Marty Makary: That’s right. We have no zero human data. Only ten mice. Hey, look, they got away with it last time with the Bivalent. They know that the regulatory process to get this approved is totally greased. President Biden was out there saying that this thing works and everyone needs to get it before the FDA even, you know, approved it. So this thing was greased. It speaks what this goes.
Guy Benson: I mean, with all due respect to President Biden, what does he know? The whole reason that we have these agencies, at least supposedly, is to do due diligence, to make sure when someone says, yes, please inject this substance into your body, it is going to have the intended effect and not have unintended bad effects. That’s the whole job. And if they aren’t even testing it and they’re just waving it through because some politicians want them to and they feel like it’s probably fine, what’s the point of the FDA?
Dr. Marty Makary: Well, they’ve clearly created a new pathway specifically for Moderna and Pfizer. And the pathway is do whatever you want. You don’t have to show us anything, really. And Moderna and Pfizer are basically watching the FDA, which is supposed to be a regulator, and the CDC become their marketing department. They’re out there promoting and pushing. And I mean, you listen to the language. It is so absolute and with such vigor, they’re recommending everyone stop what they’re doing, get this vaccine.
Guy Benson: You know, you’re a seven-month old baby. Drag your baby and and do this vaccine that, by the way, hasn’t been tested on a single human being. I’m like, I’m sorry. That’s crazy. That’s not just a little weird. That’s crazy to me. And, you know, you and I have been talking about these issues, Doctor, for years. I am not an anti-vax person. I advocated for the vaccine in the early days, especially for people of a certain age and with certain risk factors. And I absolutely stand by all of that. I also talked about why I haven’t gotten boosters at the behest of my doctor after consultations. It didn’t make sense for someone of my profile. All of that, I take a nuanced view. I’ve been against the mandates when it comes to COVID vaccines. I’ve been pretty mainstream on this stuff. I am just absolutely gobsmacked given what has happened with public trust. The collapse of the earned collapse in public trust when it comes to our health bureaucracies, Forgey and the rest of them, in all these lies that they told us and the half-truths and now what can be told, This was a little white lie. A lot of trust needs to be rebuilt, and yet it seems like they are doing everything in their power to make the problem worse, where they’re like, Oh yeah, we see all the skepticism, all the cynicism, all the mistrust. And here’s what we’ve got for you. A brand new vaccine that we haven’t really tested at all. There’s no real data on it, but we want you to put it into every single body six months and up in this country, no questions asked. That’s the recommendation. Tax dollars at work. The president says to do it. That is nuts to me.
Dr. Marty Makary: And the rest of the world is laughing at us. Guy, the UK, Regulators, Australia, they’re not right. They got the same application from Pfizer and Moderna and they said, no way, we’re not we’re not going to make a broad recommendation for everybody to get this on this dearth of data. I mean, well, some.
Guy Benson: Of you know, some of these countries have actually started recommending against certain young, healthy people getting boosters, for example. Right. They’ve moved in a completely opposite direction. And I guess the bureaucracy in the Democratic Party or the ruling powers that be in America are just hounding straight ahead. You know, everything else be damned. I don’t understand it.
Dr. Marty Makary: Well, you’re right. Scandinavian countries and many others don’t do not recommend COVID vaccination, even with the prior booster. And there’s a lot we don’t hear about in the U.S. You know, the Moderna vaccine was essentially banned most of the entire pandemic in Europe for people under age 30 because they felt strongly the risk benefit ratio was not there. Mandy Cohen, the new director of the CDC, who in many ways is is worse than the last. Rochelle Walensky, she has been touting back this new booster that, you know, again, approved based on ten mice in the case of the Pfizer.
Guy Benson: And can’t believe that.
Dr. Marty Makary: Right. That she that she claimed, you know, publicly and is saying this again and again. And she stars on The Today Show saying the same thing, that it is the best way to protect you against hospitalization and death, that it reduces the risk of long COVID and it reduces transmission. All three, you have not one shred of medical evidence. It is misinformation. If Pfizer or Moderna made those claims, they would be fined by any appropriate regulator for making claims outside their FDA approved indication. And yet now the FDA and the CDC is doing this propagation for them. The pharma companies probably feel like they died and went to heaven and they’ve got a dream set up now where the regulators are their marketing department.
Guy Benson: I mean, I was going to ask you why the new CDC director might be worse than Rochelle Walensky, but I think you kind of already answered it, given the performance, the public performance already with this. I don’t know what to call it other than wish casting propaganda at best.
Dr. Marty Makary: I mean, medical corruption, political corruption. Well, they always.
Guy Benson: Remember when you would like write an article, you specifically or one of our other colleagues, Dr. Saffire, whomever, would go out publicly on Fox or write a piece for the Post or the Journal or whatever, saying, you know, this whole natural immunity thing seems really important when we’re making decisions on COVID policies and you guys should be raked over the coals. In some cases there was censorship. They were all about disinformation and misinformation. How is it possible to frame what the CDC is telling us about this newfangled vaccine with no clinical data, even if they turn out to be right and hopefully they aren’t like I want it to be right. But there has to be proof for it to be right. How is that not misinformation in a dangerous sense? If we’re gung ho about censorship in this realm, as so many in the media are? Why are they blindly trusting these people? Is it just because they have the title from the agency and therefore the government must be right and credible, unlike someone writing a piece or posting on the internet? That’s my only working theory.
Dr. Marty Makary: Look, I agree. I would love it if this new vaccine, that brand new vaccine approved this week reduced your risk of of dying and reduced the risk of long COVID. If that’s a real condition and reduce your risk of transmission, I would love it. But we can’t just make stuff up and that there’s no scientific evidence. The guy who was suppressing Jay Bhattacharya and Dr. Ioannidis at Stanford, one of the heavyweights in administration who was censoring, telling them not to speak to the public or the media about anything COVID. This guy was the sort of king of censorship over there. Robert Harrington just got named the dean of Cornell Medical School. So what happens is if you don’t subscribe to the all or nothing religion, right, of you have to support 100% of the White House Democrat political position. Fauci position on COVID. It is a modern day McCarthyism. And if you do, you would keep advancing in your career.
Guy Benson: You are rewarded. Even if the outcomes are wrong and the trust collapses and you are the opposite of vindicated, you are indicted by your actions. If you never strayed from that official line, you are rewarded. And this is why people don’t trust the entire process, which actually is dangerous, because the process is sometimes correct and sometimes they have good advice. And if people don’t want to listen to it because they don’t trust them for good reason, that’s also extremely harmful. And just the lack of accountability, the upside down incentives. It feels like this is a recurring theme in our country, in our society in recent years. It’s very, very upsetting. And I just want to ask you one more follow up then on the Stanford situation, because Dr. Bhattacharya has been one of the leading voices, very rational, reasonable, data driven. I really love the fact that Governor DeSantis has relied on him as heavily as he had in Florida. I think it did the country a great service. Bhattacharya is at Stanford. That’s part of his major credentialing. He’s well respected, but he’s been a lightning rod because he was straying from the groupthink and actually pursuing, I know, God forbid, actual science, actual data, What exactly was happening to him at Stanford and what has been revealed recently about the extent to which that university was kind of in on this?
Dr. Marty Makary: So we’ve heard a lot about censorship from the White House and other organizations. Stanford had a partnership with the government to identify misinformation and notify social media companies. But what came out in Jay Bhattacharya is long testimonial that he published on Substack a few days ago and posted on Twitter was that higher ups at Stanford, namely this Dr. Robert Harrington called him out and said, You cannot do this research. You cannot publish this research once he did it anyway, in the spirit of academic freedom, he said, You cannot talk to the media about this research. This guy bullied. I mean, we hear about academic bullying. This guy was the king of academic bullying.
Guy Benson: Based on what? Like what was the just like, hey, you’re a doctor, you’re a scientist. Here’s the data. You can’t do it. You can’t do the research. You can’t publish what you found. You can’t talk about it. In what world? On whose authority?
Dr. Marty Makary: Well, he is. You’re absolutely right. Jay had done a research study on who already had COVID in Santa Clara County, and he was basically trying to show in a very scientifically objective way that COVID was already at large, that there was broad community transmission, that people had it and didn’t even realize they had it. That young, healthy people were essentially spared. And that’s what led to his views later in that in the fall of 2020, to call for schools to be open in the Great Barrington Declaration. They didn’t like it at Stanford. And this guy, Robert Harrington at heart Bob age on Twitter, I’m saying is the subject of a brand new sensible medicine article where they detail how he was behind a lot of this censorship and bullying. And now to see him out there posting pictures as he just started my brand new job as dean of Stanford. How about public accountability? Yeah. Yeah.
Guy Benson: Good luck. I mean, we just don’t do that. We don’t seem to do any of that. And the one thing last point, Doctor, before I let you go on this new, obviously untested vaccine that they’re telling us everyone should get, including babies. It seems to me very likely that very few people are going to take them up on this. It’s not a mandate anymore. They know they can’t get away with that. It’s going to be a recommendation, which again, I think is damaging to credibility and reputation. But they’re going to say this is what you should do. And even I mean, the noncompliance among parents for young kids even a year or two ago was through the roof. The vast majority of parents were not giving their kids these shots. So I get be shouting into the ether, this trust asking recommendation that most people are just going to blow off anyway, Right? I mean, it’s like, I don’t understand why they’re doing this.
Dr. Marty Makary: Well, when you dream something through with no scientific data. Yeah, people are smart enough to say no. I talked to public health officials and leadership in the government, and they actually believe the opposite. They think now people are blind, dumb sheep. You have to tell them exactly what to do and they don’t need to see the actual science behind it. You know, I hate to tell people to be skeptical and to, you know, demand to know what this complication was in the Moderna trial. They’re not disclosing and to want to see a human trial. I hate to tell people to be skeptical, but you know what? The medical establishment lied to the public for 35 years, saying the opioids were not addictive. They lied for 15 years, saying kids should avoid peanuts to prevent peanut allergies. Turns out that caused peanut allergies. They lied to the public for 50 years. That saturated fat causes heart disease. There was never a scientific support for it. So we’ve got to get back to the scientific method, not sort of the ruling by oligarchs where they hand down a decision like that, the Supreme Court’s without any scientific basis. Yeah.
Guy Benson: Yes. From on high. We have decided this and we know it because ten mice told us so. Do it. Do it to your kid now. It’s not nuts. Absolutely not. Dr. Marty Makary, professor at Johns Hopkins, at least for now, member of the National Academy of Medicine. His book is The Price We Pay. Doctor, always appreciate it.
Dr. Marty Makary: Good to be with you. Thanks, Guy.
